A drive through the vineyards from Vienne to Valence takes us through the Côte Rôtie, whose grape varieties are Syrah and Viognier, then through Château Grillet (Viogner grape variety), the smallest appellation in the Rhône Valley. We continue to drive on the right bank of the Rhône towards Condrieu, the land of apricots.

Then a large strip of land marks the territory of Saint Joseph.

Further south, we see Hermitage and its famous hill as well as Crozes-Hermitage on the left bank of the Rhône.

Finally, we end our tour with Cornas and Saint Peray, famous for its sparkling wines

On the geological level, the personality of the north is more granitic.

A melody in the subsoil for the winegrowers, but the key to this musical harmony is represented by terroirs where granite, silica and clay are pressed together, playing with agility on the richness of the decomposition of granites. Limestone is not very present in the northern Rhône valley.

Sweet wines are only made in the southern part of the Rhone Valley.

FALSE: Besides the muscats of Beaumes-de-Venise and the natural sweet wines of Rasteau, there is a real curiosity: the straw wine of Hermitage.

It is produced in the same way as the Jura wine, by leaving the grapes to dry for three months once they have been picked in order to concentrate the sugars.

Produced in very small quantities, very expensive to make, this wine is nevertheless unique, with aromas that oscillate between mushroom and exotic fruit
